Tuesdays with Morrie

i absolutely love this show. many Godly aspects to it.

first read it in my teenage days(can't believe i'm past it already!!) like when i was still in secondary school, n i loved it so much. back then, i wasn't saved, n tat book gave me a sense of self-fulfilment, as if things can be achieved in my own strength. how wrong i was.

n for a time, i condemned tat book. then a few years later, in 2005, i watched tat movie. n i was still moved to tears, but this time with another kind of revelation.

k, let me tell u a little abt e book first, then i'll tell u wat my revelations r k?? hehe, good things r always at e end. :)

Morrie, in this book titled "Tuesday with Morrie", was sort of like a guru of life, n being a teacher by profession, it kind of falls in place. He was always cheerful, even thou he was suffering from a disease tat will eventually take away his life - bit by bit. the narrator(n writer) of e story is actually Mitch Albom, his student, who meets Morrie on every Tuesday to continue their 'last' tutorial, n e subject was on life. Mitch, being a successful reporter in e sports n entertainment industry, was a man whose heart had became of stone, mainly due to e harshness n cruelty of tis dark world. n yet, when he visited Morrie for e first time in years, after his college years when Morrie was his teacher, he was moved by e fact tat his teacher, while in much more dire straits than he was, was smiling n chatting n joking away as if nothing was wrong in e world. as if tis world was e most perfect one tat anyone can live in. n tis attitude stuck with Mitch, until he decided to have his last 'lesson' with Morrie, on Tuesdays. n thru these many lessons, we see into life, life being how we live it every single day, n living it to e fullest.

some lessons learnt.

1. "So many people walk around with a meaningless life. They seem half asleep, even when they are busy doing things they think are important. This is because they're chasing the wrong things. The way you get meaning into your life is to devote yourself to loving others, devote yourself to your community around you, and devote yourself to creating something that gives you purpose and meaning." -- Morrie

i hated tis statement back when i was an anti-christ, n i hated it becos i was thinking, "ya rite, as if loving them would make them love me. wat abt me?? ME!?!?!" but now, as a christian, with eyes opened to grace, i realise tat this is SO SO SO true. if we bore hatred in our lives, e only ppl who were going to get hurt is us. e torture tat e body endures unknowingly due to hate is something tat scientists have proven to be catastrophical. it may be indirect cause of many diseases like heart diseases, body parts malfunction, n brain damage. whoa... scary. n so, to love, physically n worldly speaking, is realli something tat's good. even society tells us it's good to love, thou of cos, once u step into e 'reality' of e 'world' we r in, u will realise tat it's all but a dark, hideous lie. love? think abt NKF. best example. nothing else needs to be said. wat we think as acts of love, most probably, stems from desires of a dark, self-gratifying nature. sick?? hey, e world we live in is a sick place. WICKED SICK.

n yet, how do we love everyone all the time?!?! it's impossible!! u r asking me to NOT hate bin laden?!?! no way!! well, 2 ways to see this. nicely put, by loving them, they will change. a child who is loved n assured by his or her parents r less likely to be a crook compared to tat of e opposite. sarcastically put - IN WAT WAY DO U THINK U R BETTER THAN THEM?!?! for in His sight, all have sinned n all r considered sinners. only by His grace n thru His Son's act of e cross, were those who accepted Him cleansed. he who has ears, let him hear.

2. Some ppl r afraid to accept love, or give love. why? cos they r so afraid of losing those things tat they hold dear.

So true a statement isn't it?? sometimes we tend to hold on to things so tightly, as if if we let go of it, it will fly away n never return. anyone heard of e story of e mountain climber??

a mountain climber was climbing a mountain when his safety system failed. he fell but somehow, e rope managed to ledge onto a rock which held him in place. it was night time, n he couldn't see how far he was from e ground, but from e wind, he thought tat he was very high up. he was crying n praying n asking God to help, n then, he heard a still small voice telling him, "let go." n immediately he dismissed tat voice n held on e line even tighter. n wif his system gone, n having to hold on e rope by pure brute strength, he was nearly at e ends of his might when e first rays of morning hit him. n then he laughed, n let go of e rope. only to hit e ground which was only 2 feets below him.

nice story?? applicable to us yeah? lots of times we think tat we hav to hold on to things, to make sure tat nothing falls apart. n when things DO fall apart, we try by all means to get things right, to do e right things again. but then, how many times hav we succeeded? n to wat extend? in God's hands, we can trust in Someone who will, n can NEVER fail. cos He promised, tat all things work for e good. n all we need to do is to believe wat He said. :) n e best thing is? we can NEVER lose this love, once we accepted it into our lives.

3. "The truth is, when our mothers held us, rocked us, stroked our heads-none of us ever got enough of that. We all yearn in some way to return to those days when we were completely taken care of-unconditional love, unconditional attention. Most of us didn't get enough." -- Morrie

hey, how true?? many a times, i find myself acting out tis realli macho man... tis man tat's above all - fear, loneliness, poverty, insecurity. but well, deep inside, i was tis fearful little twert tat just din know how to handle life. i thought tat by putting on tis front, ppl will be attracted to me, tat it was 'cool'. but how wrong was i... cos true 'coolness' only comes from a sense of security, n e only true security tat will hold is Jesus Christ e solid Rock. when u know tat u r made in watever way u r, wonderfully n FEARfully(God reverently made u), u hav to agree tat tis(u) is a great piece of work. unless of cos, if God is an old man wif real bad eyesight or shaky hands. n if God's like tis, we all better run. :p i'm being rather philosophical today... hmmm...

ok, just wanna leave u guys with tat much for now... e rest will come in, e NEXT post. which will be soon, i promise.

"n i try not to remember e last time i promised." - Mitch Albom

:)

Man's words may come to nothing, but His Word stands e test of time. it's everything.
